APARTAMENTOS TRIBUNAL

Second runway is not going to be.

The government has announced that it is not intending to build a second runway at Manises Airport outside Valencia, despite the Americas Cup races and the forthcoming visit of the Pope. According to the Spanish Airports Authority (AENA), Manises is one of the fastest growing airports in Spain, with some 4.5 million passengers in 2005, double the figure of 2004. The estimate for this year is 6 million passengers. During a presentation last week made by both Ivan Tejada, the airport director and Antoni Bernabe, the official government delegate during the presentation of the major works currently under way at Manises. As a result, and because of the huge number of visitors expected for the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Valencia this July, Alicante's El Altet airport is due to accept some of the flights destined for Manises, whilst authorities in Valencia have authorized night flights prior to and after the Pope's visit.
