Lady MPs and chauvinistic quip

Lady MPs walked out of parliamentary question and answer session in protest at a remark they considered "chauvinistic" made by PP party spokesman, Eduardo Zaplana, who, in reply to a question about the Catalan statute, Mr Zaplana, lashed out at government first vice-president, Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega, by saying "How much better it would be for this chamber if you, who is so fond of dressing up from time to time, one day, just one day, dressed as government first vice-president and did your job properly!" It was too much for the lady MPs of the PSOE and IU-CV parties. Mr Zaplana was referring to a photo taken during Ms De la Vega's recent visit to Mozambique, when she was dressed in local costume. Ms De la Vega responded by saying that she much preferred that photo to the one taken in the Azores with George Bush, Tony Blair and Jose Maria Aznar, when they were congratulating themselves for starting a war that nobody wanted, and that she believed Mr Zaplana's words to have been "detestably chauvinistic."
